Hoboken’s Best Fitness Studios for Moms
With winter behind us and the good weather is just around the corner, it can be easy to let our fitness routines fall to the back burner. Add in factors like play dates, a newborn at home, or the (terrifying) thought of getting back into working out after some time away from the gym, and it’s easy to see why some mommies have such a hard time finding the time and energy to exercise. Fortunately, Hoboken has plenty of options when it comes to fitness – and some are especially great for the moms in town! From core-centric workouts to amenities like childcare, Hoboken has everything you need to go from frantic to fit mom. Read on to discover some of the best fitness options for moms around town.
With three beautiful locations (uptown at Maxwell Place, downtown near the PATH, and west at the Monroe Center), Local Barre is an easy choice for moms all over town. For anyone out there who hasn’t tried a barre class yet, stop what you are doing and book a class (link to localbarre.com)right now! These workouts may look easy (think small movements and minimal equipment)but they’re anything but – the Pilates and ballet-inspired workouts promise to tone, tighten, and lengthen your muscles, and you will feel it. Barre classes are especially great for new mommies because they are low-impact and have a high emphasis on the core. And if all that isn’t enough, Local Barre offers childcare for just $5!
Also located in the Monroe Center, Positively Pilates offers traditionalPilates mat and tower classes as well as special pre-natal and mommy-and-me classes! Like barre classes, Pilates offers low-impact strength training that focuses on strengthening the core and building flexibility in the muscles and spine. As a fitness instructor myself, the biggest concern I hear from new moms is that they feel they have lost their core strength. My answer to them: try Pilates! Whether it’s traditional mat, apparatus, or a fusion method such as barre, Pilates-based workouts areextremely effective inbuilding your core muscles quickly and safely. For mommies who are starting a brand new fitness journey or want a little more personal attention, Positively Pilates offers private or semi-private sessions in their studio, and they’ll even come to you for a private in-home session. Talk about convenience!
For the cardio queen mommies out there, Prime Cycle is the perfect place to get a good sweat session in without the stress of finding a babysitter for an hour. Located uptown at Maxwell Place (with a new downtown location near the PATH coming soon), Prime Cycle’s heart-pumping, music-driven spin classes offer 45 minutes of fun, sweaty, choreographed indoor cycling with a section devoted to upper body strengthening as well. Their classes will leave you feeling strong, fierce, and energized to take on the day! And to make it easy for you to get your sweat on, Prime Cycle offers childcare for just $5 during their weekday 9:00 and 10:45 AM classes and all Sunday morning classes.
Rounding out our list of Hoboken’s best fitness studios for moms is a place that offers a little bit of everything. With locations downtown on River Street and in midtown at Sixth and Willow, Work It Out offers everything from dance cardio to circuit training to classes that focus entirely on your abs or booty. Their core-centric strength training classes are great for those looking to tone their muscles, or you can sweat away the day’s stress in one of their fun hip hop or Zumba dance classes. They even have a program designed specifically for moms, called Go Mommy, that offers small group training, mommy-and-me classes, and even a childcare offering that allows your little ones toplay and learn gymnastics while you sweat!
